Tinubu Appoints Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Professor Aina will take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose tenure expires on the 31st of July 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with vast experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems and institutional transformation.

The presidency described the incoming registrar as a seasoned academic and systems expert with strong background in public sector reforms, digital transition and examination administration.

The statement explains that Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University.

According to the statement, Aina has completed his Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School and has spent over 15 years of professional experience, providing advisory support for federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional restructuring and system development.

The presidency disclosed that the incoming registrar is one of the youngest Nigeria professors in Computer Engineering, noting that he would become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

The statement further noted that Aina had previously served as a consultant to examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board on ICT systems and examination integrity.

It added that the incoming registrar is equally a member of professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu expressed optimism that the new registrar would consolidate on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s administration.
