Troops Rescue 23 Abducted Victims In Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 23 passengers abducted by suspected kidnappers after armed men barricaded the Ayegunle–Bunu highway in Kabba‑Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State and opened fire on commuters.

This was disclosed by Military Analyst, Deji Adesogan, citing military sources.

According to military analyst, military sources said the attack occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Monday when armed men barricaded the highway and opened fire on commuters.

Troops of the 12 Brigade in Kabba were said to have responded swiftly to a distress call and mobilised to the scene.

Before the soldiers arrived, the attackers had reportedly fled. However, troops discovered two bodies and five injured victims, alongside abandoned vehicles including two Toyota buses and a HOWO truck.

Adesogan disclosed that a pursuit operation was launched immediately along the suspected escape routes.

Military sources said that as a result of pressure from the advancing soldiers, the kidnappers abandoned 23 captives, who were rescued and evacuated to safety.

The injured victims were taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Kabba, for treatment.

According to military analyst, sources said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers and secure the release of any remaining hostages.

Surveillance and clearance operations have been intensified across the axis to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of road users.
