The Federal Government has vowed to intensify efforts to defeat terrorism and kidnapping across the country, assuring Nigerians that all security agencies have been mobilised to rescue abducted victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
Speaking at a national security briefing in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the recent abductions of schoolchildren and teachers are unacceptable and remain a top priority for the government.
He said intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance and coordinated rescue operations are ongoing, while the administration continues to strengthen security through intelligence-led strategies and planned policing reforms.
According to the minister, security forces have recorded significant successes against terrorists, bandits and kidnappers, with hundreds neutralised, arrested or forced to surrender.
He added that military operations across several states have led to the destruction of criminal camps and the rescue of many victims.
Idris also disclosed that over 500 terrorism-related cases have been prosecuted, resulting in 386 convictions, while the government continues to deepen security cooperation with international partners.
He urged Nigerians and the media to support the fight against insecurity by promoting unity, verifying information and avoiding the spread of misinformation.
