Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has announced Samuel Ogirima Joseph, a 400-level student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Faculty of Arts, as the winner of the maiden edition of its “Vice-Chancellor for One Day” initiative.
Ogirima, who currently has a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.58, emerged as the winner of the initiative designed to give students practical exposure to university leadership and administration.
The initiative was introduced by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, to encourage student participation in leadership and governance while providing them with first-hand experience of the responsibilities associated with university administration.
Through the initiative, the student is expected to gain practical insight into the operations of the university’s leadership and the decision-making processes involved in running the institution.
The development comes as the university prepares for its forthcoming convocation ceremony, scheduled to hold on October 24, 2026.
The convocation is expected to bring together graduating students, their families, members of the university community, government officials and other stakeholders to celebrate the academic achievements of the institution’s graduating class.
The ceremony will also feature the conferment of degrees and other academic awards on deserving graduates who have successfully completed their programmes of study.
The forthcoming convocation is expected to be another significant milestone in the university’s academic calendar, as graduating students prepare to formally conclude their undergraduate journeys and begin the next phase of their careers and personal development.
Meanwhile, the “Vice-Chancellor for One Day” initiative represents another effort by FUL to promote leadership development and give students opportunities to gain practical experience beyond the classroom.
