The Kogi State Council of Ulamah has held an 8th-day Fidau prayer in honour of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, at the Lokoja Central Mosque.
The prayer, held on Sunday and led by the Chief Imam of Lokoja Central Mosque, Sheikh Imam Aminu Shaban, formed part of a nationwide series of prayers organised in different locations for the repose of the soul of the former governor.
The Fidau prayer brought together Islamic scholars, political associates, community leaders, family members and other sympathisers who gathered to pray for forgiveness of the deceased and his safe passage into Aljannatul Firdaus.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Amb. Alhaji Usman Bello, described the prayer as an important Islamic tradition of remembering the deceased and seeking Allah’s mercy for the departed.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Kogi State Council of Ulamah, Zakariyah Aliyu, said the gathering provided an opportunity for Muslims and well-wishers to unite in prayer for the former governor while consoling his family and the people of Kogi State.
The Lokoja prayer was one of several Fidau prayer sessions held across Kogi State and Abuja following the announcement by the family of the former governor.
