President Bola Tinubu has called for an end to prolonged corruption prosecutions, urging the judiciary to close legal and procedural loopholes exploited by suspects to delay or frustrate trials.
Tinubu made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at the eighth annual capacity-building workshop for judges and justices organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI).
The President, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, stressed the need for judicial reforms to ensure the timely administration of justice in corruption and financial crime cases.
He urged judges to review outdated legal precedents and address procedural gaps that allow politically exposed persons and organised crime suspects to frustrate prosecutions.
Tinubu also highlighted the growing use of digital technologies, including cryptocurrency, blockchain and artificial intelligence, in financial crimes, calling for improved judicial capacity to tackle emerging challenges.
He emphasised that the fight against corruption required stronger collaboration among the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.
The President further commended the EFCC for its efforts to combat financial crimes and recover illicit assets, stressing the importance of timely trials in strengthening accountability and public confidence in the justice system.
