The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed three senior police officers and demoted 16 others for misconduct and breaches of professional standards.
The Commission also approved severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others, bringing the number of officers sanctioned to 42.
Three officers were cleared of the allegations, while some previously suspended officers were reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.
The decisions were taken at the Commission’s plenary meeting, presided over by its Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), at its headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Argungu said the sanctions were part of efforts to enforce discipline and promote accountability in the police force.
He reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of police misconduct.
He further commended the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), and other board members for their contributions to the review of the cases and appeals.
The Police Service Commission added that the cases were subjected to departmental, committee and plenary reviews before decisions were taken.
