Kogi Commissioner Bashir Gegu Honoured for Grassroots Impact

The Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources in Kogi State, Engineer Bashir Gegu, has been honored by the Ekuzi Progressive Association for his contributions to grassroots development and community upliftment in Kogi Local Government Area.

During a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, the President of the association, Comrade Idris Yahaya Mohammed, commended Engineer Gegu’s consistent commitment to projects that directly impact the lives of rural dwellers.

Comrade Idris, a former Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, described the Commissioner as a beacon of hope whose philanthropic interventions have touched various communities across Kogi West.

He specifically highlighted Gegu’s donation toward the construction of the Ekuzi Unity House in Agbudu, envisioned to serve as a multipurpose event center for residents within and beyond the community. According to the association, this project stands as a symbol of unity and progress for the Ekuzi people.

Comrade Idris further appealed to other political office holders in Kogi West Senatorial District to take a cue from Engineer Gegu by investing in developmental initiatives that address basic community needs.

He listed other vital projects linked to the Commissioner’s office, such as the electrification of Okpareke to Adangere and the grading of feeder roads connecting Iganuma to Esikaku and Agbudu to Katubo.

The association also used the opportunity to request government attention toward the grading and upgrading of traditional stools in the region, noting that such recognition would strengthen local leadership structures.

They reaffirmed their support for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration and promised continued collaboration in efforts to transform rural communities.

In his response, Engineer Bashir Gegu expressed gratitude to the group for the recognition, stating that the award for Humanitarian Services would serve as motivation to do more. He pledged to remain committed to grassroots development and assured the people of his unwavering support in ensuring equitable progress across all communities in Kogi Local Government Area.
