Valverde Seals Victory as Ten-Man Real Madrid Outclass Pachuca at Club World Cup

Real Madrid displayed tactical discipline and attacking finesse to secure a commanding 3-1 win over Mexico’s Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday.

The victory, achieved in front of over 70,000 fans at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, puts the Spanish giants in pole position in Group H with four points, all under the new guidance of head coach Xabi Alonso.

Madrid’s resilience was tested early when Raul Sencio was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute for denying a clear goal-scoring chance. The early setback sparked hope of an upset for Pachuca, who looked lively in the opening exchanges, nearly capitalizing when Thibaut Courtois was called into action to deny Brazilian winger Kenedy and forward Alan Bautista in quick succession.

However, Real’s experience and composure began to show as they slowed the game’s tempo and took control of possession. Their patience paid off in the 35th minute when Jude Bellingham finished off a fluid move involving Fran Garcia and Gonzalo Garcia.

Just before the interval, Real doubled their advantage with Arda Guler firing in after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint cross and Gonzalo’s intelligent lay-off.

Pachuca came out of the break with renewed purpose and peppered Courtois’s goal with a flurry of shots. The Belgian goalkeeper was in top form, thwarting efforts from John Kennedy, Salomon Rondon, and Bryan Gonzalez to keep Madrid’s two-goal cushion intact.

Pachuca’s best chance fell to Javier Eduardo Lopez, but his wayward shot summed up a night of missed opportunities for the Liga MX side.

Real sealed the result in the 70th minute with a beautifully orchestrated team move that saw Federico Valverde slot home after combining smartly with substitute Brahim Diaz. It was a fitting reward for Madrid’s balanced blend of grit and flair, even while a man down for nearly the entire match.

Pachuca earned a late consolation goal through Elias Montiel, whose shot deflected off Aurelien Tchouameni to beat Courtois. However, the goal came too late to alter the outcome. With this defeat, Pachuca are officially out of the tournament after two losses, while Real Madrid edge closer to the knockout stage, awaiting the result of the Al Hilal vs. Salzburg clash later Sunday.
