Ganduje Bows Out: APC National Chairman Steps Down Amid Health Concerns

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing health concerns as the driving reason behind his decision.

The former Kano State Governor formally submitted his resignation letter on Friday, handing it over through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru.

Ganduje’s exit, less than two years after assuming the helm of the ruling party in August 2023, has left the APC navigating a sudden vacuum in leadership. While no specific details were provided about his health condition, party insiders noted that Ganduje emphasized his need to prioritize personal well-being, describing the choice as difficult but necessary.

The development has caused an uproar at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, where members of staff and top officials appeared visibly stunned. Eyewitnesses reported a mix of disbelief and speculation, with some staffers already clearing out the former chairman’s belongings from his office by midday Friday.

In the interim, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Abubakar Kyari Dalori, is expected to step into the role of acting chairman. Party sources confirmed that he would steer the APC leadership until a formal election is held at the next national convention, tentatively scheduled for December 2025.
