Kogi State Government has announced plans to commence the procurement process for its proposed Zairiagi International airport before the end of January 2026, marking a major step toward expanding the state’s infrastructure and investment profile.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo disclosed this while hosting members of the State Assembly during the signing of the 2026 budget into law on Wednesday.
He said the design of the airport project has reached advanced stage of readiness following an extensive review carried out by six professional consultants over a period of nearly nine months.
According to the governor, the rigorous assessment of the design underscores the state’s preparedness to move into the procurement phase, having met all necessary technical and professional requirements.
Governor Ododo emphasized that the development of an international and cargo airport is central to the state’s economic vision, noting that such infrastructure is critical to attracting investment and positioning Kogi as a competitive business destination.
He added that the airport will enhance trade, improve connectivity, and stimulate economic growth, stressing that investors are already showing strong interest in keying into the state’s broader development agenda.
