President Tinubu Urges Unity, Defends Reforms as APC Charts Path to Prosperity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for unwavering unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress, declaring that cohesion remains the party’s greatest strength as it consolidates its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and steers Nigeria toward economic recovery and long-term prosperity.

Speaking at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention at Eagle Square in Abuja the President described the gathering as a defining moment for both the APC and Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that progress can only be achieved through collective resolve, discipline, and shared purpose.

“This Convention is not merely a gathering. It is a defining chapter in the story of our democracy and our party,” he said.

Tinubu reaffirmed that the APC was founded as a vehicle for national transformation and not merely a platform for political ambition, warning that internal divisions driven by ego and personal interests could undermine the party’s vision.

He urged party members to remain focused and united, emphasizing that the convention must send a strong message of stability, readiness, and forward-looking leadership to Nigerians and the global community.

“Political parties do not fail only through electoral defeats. Often, they falter when ego overrides ideology or when ambition replaces discipline,” he said.

Defending his administration’s reform agenda, the President acknowledged the challenges faced since assuming office but maintained that tough decisions, including economic restructuring, were necessary to reposition the country.

He noted significant strides in infrastructure development, fiscal reforms, and economic stabilization, citing declining inflation, sustained trade surpluses, improved investor confidence, and renewed global financial credibility as key indicators of progress.

The President also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen national security, modernise critical sectors such as transportation and energy, and address legacy challenges in the power sector through new initiatives aimed at boosting electricity supply and improving grid infrastructure.

He assured Nigerians that current sacrifices would yield long-term benefits, stating that the country is transitioning steadily from economic hardship towards stability and prosperity.

“No nation rises by hiding from the truth. No economy grows by sustaining wasteful subsidies or dysfunctional priorities,”

On democracy, Tinubu dismissed allegations that the APC seeks to dominate the political space, affirming his belief in a vibrant opposition as essential to good governance.

He defended the 2026 Electoral Act, insisting it reflects national consensus and strengthens democratic institutions, while pledging continued commitment to credible elections and the rule of law.

The President further called for greater inclusion of youths and women in governance, describing them as critical to Nigeria’s future.

“You are not only the future of Nigeria, you are our hope for a more glorious and assured future.” To women, he added, “A party that excludes women weakens itself; a party that empowers women will be stronger and more resilient.”

He urged the party to expand opportunities for women and youth participation, not as symbolic figures but as active decision-makers shaping national policy and development.

President Tinubu called on newly elected officials to lead with humility, vision, and dedication, stressing that the future of both the APC and Nigeria’s democracy depends on principled and transparent leadership.

While reaffirming confidence in the party’s growing influence, the President noted the influx of new members from across the political spectrum is an indication of trust in the APC’s vision by Nigerians, urging leaders to sustain the momentum through credible governance and unity of purpose.
