Kogi Leaders Push Unity, Development at Bassa Security Parley

Stakeholders across political, security, and youth groups converged in Lokoja as the Ododo Bassa Youth Grassroot Initiative restates calls for sustainable peace and development in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The appeal was made at a Youth Security Round Table organised by Ododo Bassa Youth Grassroot Initiative at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Lokoja.

The forum, themed “Sustaining an Enduring Peace in Bassa Local Government Area,” brought together key actors to deliberate on pathways to long-term stability and growth.

The State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu who was represented by the Deputy the Chief of Staff, Hon. Hillary Egwuabah, stressed that peace remains the bedrock of development, warning that continued unrest in Bassa poses broader risks to the stability of Kogi State.

He maintained that progress and unity cannot thrive in an atmosphere of conflict and urged residents to embrace reconciliation.

Egwuabah further highlighted the strategic importance of Bassa to the state, noting its historical and political contributions to the state.

He called on various interest groups to set aside differences and present a united front, insisting that shared purpose is essential for meaningful development.

On the security front, the State Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara represented by Hon. Ibrahim Tijani, advocated stronger community-driven peacebuilding efforts.

He urged political leaders, business leaders, and other influential individuals to invest in dialogue and initiatives that demonstrate commitment to restoring calm, adding that such efforts would inspire confidence and support by the government.

Coordinator of the group, Comrade Victor Kpanaki, described the engagement as a critical platform for collaboration, while calling for expanded opportunities in employment, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.

In a similar vein, Hon. Nda Muhammed cautioned against superficial peace, urging genuine reconciliation and stronger intergenerational cooperation to secure lasting harmony in the area.

Participants at the event also emphasised the role of youth empowerment in sustaining peace.
