Ododo Advocates Stronger Collaboration among Security Agencies in Kogi

Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has called for a more unified approach among security agencies operating in the region. The Governor emphasized that collaboration between local law enforcement, vigilante services, and professional hunters is critical to achieving the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime.

The Governor made these remarks during a strategic meeting held with Local Government Chairmen, members of the state’s vigilante service, and professional hunters at the Government House in Lokoja.

According to a statement issued by Ismaila Isah, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, it was disclosed that Governor Ododo stressed the necessity of cooperation at all levels of government to foster a safer Kogi urging local government chairmen, security agencies, and community leaders to work in concert to enhance the safety and well-being of citizens, particularly in remote and underserved areas. The collaboration, he noted, would ensure that security efforts align with the realities on the ground.

The discussions at the meeting focused on devising new strategies for improving community safety. The participants emphasized the need to strengthen coordination among security agencies, which is seen as vital for tackling the evolving challenges posed by criminals in the state.

The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to creating a collaborative environment that fosters mutual support among security personnel, enabling a stronger defense against criminal elements.

Tosin Olokun, the Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, and the head of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kogi, also attended the meeting. He underscored the importance of Governor Ododo’s initiative to integrate local government officials, vigilante members, and professional hunters into the security architecture of the state.

Olokun highlighted how this partnership is especially beneficial in areas where conventional security forces may have limited access or presence.

In response to these growing security concerns, the Kogi State Government has made strategic changes to its vigilante service and professional hunters. These operatives are now central to the government’s efforts to maintain public safety, particularly in rural areas. Governor Ododo pointed out that these grassroots forces are essential in supplementing the efforts of the police and military, especially in areas with limited infrastructure.
