The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended operations on the Warri-Itakpe over operational exigencies and technical advice from its engineers.

This was disclosed by the Corporation in a statement issued on Monday, May 25, 2026.

According to the NRC, the decision was necessary to ensure continued safety, reliability and improved service delivery for passengers using the corridor.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) wishes to inform the general public and esteemed passengers that the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) has been temporarily suspended due to operational exigencies and technical advice from our Engineers,” the statement read.

The corporation said the suspension would allow it carry out assessments aimed at maintaining operations on the route.

“The temporary suspension has become necessary to enable the Corporation carry out critical operational assessments aimed at ensuring continued safety, reliability, and improved service delivery on the corridor,” it stated.

The NRC apologise to passengers and other stakeholders affected by the development, assuring that efforts were underway to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time.

It further stated that passengers and intending travelers would be duly informed before the end of the week on the date for the resumption of normal train operations.

The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to rail services across the country and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.

“The Corporation remains committed to safe, efficient, and customer-friendly rail services across the country and appreciates the understanding, patience, and continued support of the public during this period,” it added.
