The Special Adviser on Media to Kogi State Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to nurturing young talents, stressing that the next generation of journalists, broadcasters, editors, and media professionals will emerge from today’s classrooms.
He made this known during a study visit by students and teachers of the Confluence Breed International School Press Club to Lugard TV in Lokoja, aimed at broadening the students’ understanding of journalism and media practice.
Representing the Special Adviser, a member of the Administration Department of Lugard TV, Comrade Suleiman Ganiyu, commended the students for developing an interest in journalism at an early stage of their education.
He described the visit as a positive step towards exposing young minds to the realities of the media profession, noting that journalism extends beyond what is heard on radio, read in newspapers or seen on television.
According to him, the profession is fundamentally about gathering, verifying, and reporting facts, while helping to shape public understanding of issues and events within society.
He expressed confidence that the educational visit would provide the students with valuable insights into the processes involved in news production and broadcasting.
He added that the visit offered a rare opportunity to observe media operations firsthand, interact with professionals behind the scenes, and appreciate the discipline, creativity, and dedication required to keep the public informed.
The Special Adviser further noted that such exposure could inspire some of the students to pursue careers in journalism, broadcasting, production, public relations, or digital media.
Speaking on behalf of the school, a teacher, Mr. Umar Abdulsalam, expressed appreciation to the management of Lugard TV for hosting the students and providing them with a practical learning experience.
He said the visit complemented classroom lessons and would help the students gain a better understanding of journalism and mass communication.
Some of the students expressed excitement for the opportunity to visit a television station, describing the experience as enlightening and inspiring.
They said interacting with media professionals and witnessing news production processes firsthand had deepened their interest in journalism and related careers in the media industry.
The visit featured a guided tour of the station’s facilities, including the newsroom, production units, and broadcast studios, where the students were introduced to various aspects of television production.
