INEC Releases Final List of Candidates for Anambra Governorship

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC final list) has confirmed 16 political parties eligible for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, officially kicking off the campaign season. With completed candidate substitutions and verified credentials, INEC urges parties to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the November 8 vote.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee. He noted that the list reflects completed candidate substitution processes and verification of credentials submitted through Form EC9.

Among the highlights, two parties, the African Action Congress (AAC) and National Rescue Movement (NRM) are fielding female governorship candidates, while six parties have chosen female running mates. However, no candidate with a disability is on the final list.

Olumekun confirmed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held a new primary to replace its governorship candidate, while Accord, AAC, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party substituted their deputy governorship nominees. The final substitution deadline was June 2, 2025.

With the publication of the final list, INEC emphasized that no further changes will be allowed except in cases of death before election day. Campaigns are to commence officially on June 11 and must conclude by midnight on November 6, in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
