Argentina captain Lionel Messi has said he has no plans to retire anytime soon and will continue playing football for as long as he feels capable of helping his team.
The 39-year-old made the statement in a post-match interview with FIFA, where he spoke about his future and the possibility of playing at the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
According to Messi, he is focused on the present and does not want to think too far ahead.
“Yes, I will continue for some time. As long as I can contribute, feel good physically and help my teammates, I will keep playing,” he said.
When asked if he could feature at the 2030 World Cup, the Argentine star refused to rule it out but admitted that it is still too far away to think about.
“I don’t know. The truth is I’m not thinking about that right now. It seems a bit far off, but I’m living one day at a time and focused on the present,” Messi added.
Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in 2022, remains one of the most influential players in world football despite approaching his 40th birthday. His latest comments will excite fans who hope to see him continue representing Argentina on the international stage.
For now, the Inter Miami forward says his priority is staying fit, enjoying his football and helping his teammates whenever he is needed.
