The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) has inaugurated its new national executives for the 2026/2027 session, with the association pledging to prioritise student welfare, educational support, skills acquisition and youth empowerment.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday at the NUT House, Lokoja ushered in the new executives to oversee the affairs of the association.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, the new NAKOSS National President, Comr. Isiaka Usman Amoto, described his emergence as a call to service and an opportunity to work for the interest of Kogi State students.
Amoto thanked the delegates, student leaders and others who took part in the electoral process.
He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his support for students, particularly the approval of bursary for more than 13,000 indigenous students.
He said his administration would be guided by five cardinal areas, including student welfare, educational support, empowerment and skill acquisition, unity, accountability and transparency.
“NAKOSS cannot be built by the president alone. NAKOSS is a collective responsibility,” he said, urging members to give the new administration advice, constructive criticism and support.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Momoh Stephen congratulated the executives and urged them to combine their leadership duties with academic excellence, discipline and personal development.
Stephen described student leadership as an opportunity to prepare young people for future responsibilities, stressing the need for humility, fairness and accountability.
He said the ministry would continue to support youth empowerment, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, sports and leadership development.
Stephen urged NAKOSS to promote unity among students from every parts of the state and maintain a good relationship with government and educational institutions.
He advised the executives to identify problems affecting students and take practical solutions to the appropriate authorities, assuring them of the ministry’s support.
Earlier, the outgoing NAKOSS National President, Sunday Adeola Simon, thanked Governor Ododo, government officials and other stakeholders for their support during his 16-month tenure.
He said his administration facilitated medical services for students through the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency, organised security and communication orientation programmes and distributed exercise books in schools.
Simon further mentioned the Talk to the Girl Child programme, employment facilitation efforts, the evacuation of Kogi students from the University of Jos for safety and educational support for underprivileged students among achievements of the administration.
