Nigerian Trumpeter Sets Guinness World Record After Overcoming Disqualification Setback

Nigerian trumpeter Joshua Olusanya, popularly known as Trumpet Influencer, has officially entered the Guinness World Records for the longest marathon playing the trumpet, after a determined second attempt. His successful performance lasted 25 hours, 30 minutes, and 36 seconds, and took place between May 9 and 10, 2025, at Terra Kulture in Lagos.

This accomplishment comes after a disqualification in February 2024, when his initial 24-hour, 46-minute attempt was nullified for pausing to drink water, which Guinness World Records ruled had disrupted the continuous flow of the performance. Despite the setback, Olusanya said the experience strengthened his resolve to make history.

Olusanya took to Instagram to share the news, expressing gratitude to his fans and fellow Nigerians. “Official! I’m honoured to announce that I’ve set the first-ever Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Playing the Trumpet! A dream we collectively fought for. Thank you, Nigeria, we made history together!” he posted under his handle #officialbossboss.

Beyond setting a world record, Olusanya said the goal was to spotlight the significance of instrumental music and inspire the next generation of musicians. He also hopes his story encourages artists to pursue excellence regardless of setbacks or initial failures.

According to Guinness World Records, Olusanya’s record attempt aligned with their vision of celebrating human achievement. His endurance challenge not only celebrated artistic expression but also served as a global call for the recognition of music education and instrumental talent in Africa and beyond.
