The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists observing the ongoing fasting seasons to take regular breaks while driving to reduce the risk of road crashes.

‎‎The FRSC Commander in charge of the Sagamu–Ore–Benin Expressway corridor, Nasir Mohammed, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota on Friday.‎‎

He said the advisory became necessary following the commencement of fasting by both Christian and Muslim faithful.‎‎

According to NAN, Catholics recently began the Lenten season, marked by 40 days of fasting, while Muslims have also commenced the Ramadan fast in the Islamic calendar.

‎‎Mohammed cautioned drivers to be mindful of fatigue and possible dehydration during the fasting period, urging them to rest after every four hours of driving before returning to the wheel.

‎‎He also warned against speeding and wrongful overtaking, noting that such traffic violations could lead to avoidable tragedies.‎‎

“We appeal to motorists, especially those observing the fast, to prioritise safety by resting every four hours while driving. Let us drive to stay alive,” he said, wishing road users safer journeys and a fulfilling season.‎
