Kwara APC Group Backs Trial, Tells Saraki to Defend Himself Over Offa Case

Prominent political figures in Kwara State have called on former Senate President Bukola Saraki to address allegations linking him to the 2018 Offa armed robbery by presenting his defence before a court of law.

The leaders stressed that legal proceedings, rather than public discourse, remain the appropriate avenue to resolve such serious claims.

The call was made under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Continuity Mandate Group, whose members argued that media engagements cannot substitute for judicial scrutiny. They insisted that Saraki should focus on clearing his name through due process instead of responding through public statements.

Signatories to the statement, including Usman Bibire Ajape, Issa Bio Ibrahim, and Jimoh Alao, maintained that the allegations against the former Senate President warrant legal examination. According to them, the responsibility to establish innocence lies squarely within the courtroom.

The group also commended Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for initiating charges against Saraki and former governor Abdulfattah Ahmed. They described the move as a bold step toward ensuring accountability and justice for victims of the robbery incident.

In their view, pursuing the case would not only provide closure for affected families but also reinforce the principle that no public office holder is above the law. They added that the legal action could serve as a warning against abuse of power by political leaders.

While acknowledging concerns about the timing of the charges, the APC group emphasized that justice should not be delayed or influenced by political sentiments. They reiterated that the court remains the ultimate arbiter and urged Saraki to appear before it to respond fully to the allegations against him.
