Housing Relief in Sight as Kogi Govt Plans Comprehensive Rent Reforms

The Kogi State Government has announced a comprehensive strategy to address escalating rent costs and housing shortages across the state, particularly in Lokoja and other major towns.

Speaking in Lokoja, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Taiye Abanika, clarified the government’s position amid growing public concerns. While no formal complaints have been submitted to his office, the Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring affordable housing under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Abanika acknowledged the housing challenges faced by residents and revealed the government’s multi-pronged approach to address the issue. This includes the development of new housing estates and layouts to increase the housing supply and attract private investment.

In addition, the Ministry is working on a housing policy aimed at regulating rent costs and preventing arbitrary hikes. This initiative seeks to create a fair and affordable rental market for all citizens.

The Commissioner encouraged residents to utilize official channels to report grievances, assuring them that the government remains committed to resolving housing-related issues promptly.
